How you can help: or fundraise or give your time

So many stories

SANCHAT Plans

When you see children ‘reborn' through the care, security and learning provided by our Schools it is only natural to want to extend our reach. Many well intentioned charitable projects flounder early in their development; ours has the benefit of a proven track record over 30 years. It has a community ethos which can see many of the children we help in turn return as adults to help others. The next phase of our development calls for investment in land, facilities and equipment. In essence we need financial support.

Land

We propose to purchase 12.7 acres within Gilgil. This will be used for a new Restart Centre for girls and also specialist vocational training.

Homes

We would like to build a small number of houses which would be ‘home' primarily for children who have completed their Restart programme. The homes would share communal kitchens and dining block but act as an independent ‘bridge' between life under the care of the Trust and the outside world.

Facilities Improvements

All our facilities, from dormitories to classrooms, are in desperate need of refurbishment. Our children are happy but deserve better, as do our dedicated staff. We also need a replacement building for the existing Restart Centre with capacity for 120 boys.

New Facilities

We have plans for a Youth and Community Centre for use by a mix of local children and those within our care (Schools and Restart Centre). We would also like a Hall with changing facilities and seating for audiences to enjoy performances and concerts from the children.

Vocational Training

We need buildings to encourage practical skills training (e.g. carpentry, IT, mechanics, plumbing) which can link into small business initiatives

Recreation

A safe sports area to allow the children to train and play sport (football, netball, volleyball) and a playground for the younger children

Sustainability

We plan to sink a borehole to supply clean, safe water across our site. We also propose to develop a sophisticated agricultural programme to teach the children but also grow produce to feed them and in due course provide a revenue stream. The programme will also develop food marketing and technology skills. As adjuncts to the project the scheme will focus on recycling waste, alternative energy sources and the production of energy from briquettes of waste paper and dried leaves.

Our plans are realistic, the urgency compelling. We need help from every quarter, however small. If you feel you can help in any way please get in touch.

Here Come The Girls!

We have long been striving towards providing girls with similar opportunities to the boys in our Restart. We are really happy to report the beginnings of this new venture with the first little girls entering our doors!

THANK YOU FOR GIVING

We are so grateful to the growing numbers of people who are giving of their time to cycle, climb, swim, parachute (and other equally gruelling activities!) with SANCHAT as beneficiaries of their fundraising efforts. If you are planning to participate in a fundraising event or would simply like to make a donation please take a look at our Bmycharity page.
