Peter Muturi

Peter was born in Nakuru district at Bahati. Peter was an only child and when he was just 10 years old his mother died and was left to be brought up by his Grandmother who looked after him until she was no-longer able to raise the money to feed him. Peter got a place in an orphanage in Nakuru and stayed until he completed form 4 (the highest level of secondary education) at a school in Nakuru. Peter was a good student and got a B - in his secondary school exams. He was at a loss now to gain any kind of future for there was no money for further education or for any kind of training. Peter met up with Mary Coulson and Mr Ndolo at a home for boys which was called The Cowshed. It housed over 70 boys in three cow sheds. Peter took it upon himself to look after the younger boys and impressed Mary very much indeed by his kindness and care of these street children. He came to Sanchat Restart Centre and asked whether we would take him on so that he could find a way to any kind of future. We offered him a voluntary job assisting the carers and teachers. He did this admirably and when an offer arose to have him trained as a sports coach specifically for Pembroke House School. He accepted and is now working, earning money and living at Pembroke House School. He along with three others of our boys have created a huge success story for the Restart. I hear from the Headmistress that in a year's time they will be considered as permanent staff at this prestigious British curriculum prep school.
