Educating Healing Employing
When you see children ‘reborn' through the care, security and learning provided by our Schools it is only natural to want to extend our reach. Many well intentioned charitable projects flounder early in their development; ours has the benefit of a proven track record over 30 years. It has a community ethos which can see many of the children we help in turn return as adults to help others. The next phase of our development calls for investment in land, facilities and equipment. In essence we need financial support.
Sanchat owns 12.7 acres in Gilgil on which we hope the new Restart will be built. We have planning permission to build a centre to home 100 boys and 100 girls, now all we need are the funds.
All our facilities are in desperate need of refurbishment. Our children are happy but deserve better, as do our dedicated staff.
We have plans for a Youth and Community Centre for use by a mix of local children and those within our care. We would also like a Hall with changing facilities and seating for audiences to enjoy performances and concerts from the children.
We hope to one day have a safe sports area to allow the children to train and play sport (football, netball, volleyball) and a playground for the younger children
Sanchat is unlike any other charity because is understands the importance of improving people's lives in the long term. Sanchat goes beyond providing just a good education, it provides technical and vocational training programmes as well as employment opportunities to its school graduates and to the local community so that their lives can be changed for the better and for good.
Sanchat hopes one day to become fully sustainable so that we don't have to rely solely on sponsors to feed the children relying on us for support. On Sanchat's land, we are are currently running an agricultural programme to teach the children and youth how to farm using sustainable low-cost inputs, but also grow produce to feed them and in due course provide a revenue stream. The programme also develops food marketing and technology skills. As adjuncts to the project the scheme focuses on recycling waste, alternative energy sources and the production of energy from briquettes of waste paper and dried leaves.
We need buildings to encourage practical skills training (e.g. carpentry, IT, mechanics, plumbing) which can link into small business initiatives for all our school leavers and for the youth of Gilgil.
As you can see Sanchat doesn't leave any stone unturned, that to really make a difference, every aspect of life needs to be considered. However, our plans are realistic, the urgency compelling. We need help from every quarter, however small. If you feel you can help in any way please get in touch.
